MOVIE PREMIERE: Vince Gilligan both writes and directs this latest entry in the Breaking Bad franchise, which picks up exactly where we last saw Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman at the end of that superb AMC series. Now we get the next chapter in Jesse’s saga, as well as a flashback or two, all of which ends up being a wonderful new part of the canon, and provides several opportunities to re-encounter old characters and players. To say more would be wrong, but trust me: El C

MINISERIES PREMIERE: Part 1. This three-part limited series reboots the beloved anthology horror franchise for kids for a new Nickelodeon generation, with an all-new storytelling Midnight Society. First up: a “Carnival of Doom” story, starring Rafael Casal as evil ringmaster Mr. Tophat. (A better name, I guess, than that given to the put-upon Vampire’s Apprentice protagonist, Count Turtopp. But I digress.)

Game 1 in the National League Championship Series is played tonight at 8 p.m. ET, with the Washington Nationals facing the St. Louis Cardinals. The winner of this series represents the National League in this year’s World Series, and both NL teams arrived at this point via a very dramatic path: Both the Nationals and Cardinals needed five games to win their best-of-five series, against, respectively, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves.

This week’s scheduled lineup sounds fascinating: Maher’s scheduled guests include MSNBC and The Circus contributor John Heilemann, Minnesota Sen. (and 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful) Amy Klobuchar… and Howard Stern. Wednesday night on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Stern called his wife of 11 years, Beth Stern, on stage and proposed to her all over again. (She said yes.) What will he do here for an encore?

Last night, the National League gave us two surprising, unpredictable Division Series games – games that decided which teams kept going in their hopes to play postseason baseball, and which ones packed it in for the year. Somewhat astoundingly, the dominant-all-season Los Angeles Dodgers lost its deciding Game 5 to the Washington Nationals, with a 10th-inning grand slam. And in another do-or-die NL Game 5, the St. Louis Cardinals trounced the Atlanta Braves, 13-1. Tonight, in the one remai

My favorite comedy of the current TV season continues its final year with another not-to-be-missed, not-to-be-predicted wild ride through the afterlife. This week, the going gets tougher, but our gang of dead friends isn’t giving up yet… In fact, they’re taking a moment to relax. Nice shirt!!

From 1987, this film indeed captures Eddie Murphy in the raw – displaying his undiluted talent as a then-peerless standup comedy act, unafraid and often unchecked. What Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor had accomplished before him, Murphy did by taking the stage, and carrying the baton. Watch this Raw performance now, because after all these years, Murphy is planning a return to standup…

What is this new series up to? We don’t quite know yet – but as producers Robert and Michelle King keep shaking it, it remains tantalizingly difficult to predict. And as I’ve already suggested with my enthusiasm for The Good Place, that’s one of my favorite attributes of a TV series… the element of surprise.

The most devoted fans of the Nancy Drew mystery books may not be the primary target audience for the new Nancy Drew TV series that launches Wednesday. For the rest of us, and for those fans willing to give Nancy Drew 2.0 a shot, it's pretty cool...

TBS has a doubleheader tonight that is undeniably exciting, even for casual baseball fans. Two National League Division Series are going the distance this year, with each team winning two games in a best-of-five series. Tonight is Game 5 for four teams, and only two of them will advance after tonight’s do-or-die contest. First up is St. Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves, where Atlanta has home-field advantage, but where St. Louis won Game 4 in a thrilling late rally to force this Game 5.
