SEASON PREMIERE: Season 5 of Bosch arrives today on Amazon, with Titus Welliver continuing his portrayal of generally dour detective Harry Bosch. If you though that finally solving the cold case of his murdered mother would allow him to put the past to rest, think again. There are other cold cases buried back there – and they’re almost as haunting. For a full review, see David Hinckley’s All Along the Watchtower.

SERIES PREMIERE: Chris Lilley, the chameleonic writer-actor from Summer Heights High and Angry Boys, once again shows up with a sketch series in which he plays a variety of outrageous roles opposite less flamboyant co-stars. One of his six characters this time around is a lesbian dog psychic (based on the first two episodes, I’m pretty sure it’s she, not the bitches, who are lesbians). Another is… well, tune in for a sample, if you’re interested. I’m very impressed

SPECIAL PREMIERE: It’s time for another set of colorized I Love Lucy specials, shown by CBS in prime time for the first time. I used to hate colorization back in the very old days – but back then, it all looked hopelessly tacky. Today’s computer programs make it much more watchable – and when I teach classic TV to my students at Rowan University, the chance to see anything that isn’t in black & white qualifies as a real treat.

SEASON FINALE: This is the Season 2 finale of this latest Star Trek spinoff, and it manages, after a very frenetic and time-hopping hour, to spin off into yet another direction – while also setting the overall arc of this canon into a recognizable direction, Enterprise-wise, and even making the younger Spock a bit more… familiar. And Michael’s apocalyptic vision? After two seasons, it finally makes sense.
