In the first season of this long-running fashion design series, its contestants were given a particularly inventive and challenging assignment:  shop at a grocery store and design dresses made out of food. (Lettuce, entertain you!) And tonight, there’s another out-of-the-box challenge: the contestants are charged with creating avant garde garments using 3D printers.

This entry in TCM’s month-long Trailblazing Women salute to female filmmakers is Barbara Kopple’s 1976 documentary, Harlan County, U.S.A. It’s about a tense and often violent strike by coal miners in Kentucky – and if you’ve just purchased the complete series DVD set of Justified, you might want to watch this as a scene-setting appetizer. Or a perspective-offering encore. Either way, it’s worth it.

Today’s two games, because they’re both Game 5s in their respective series, decide which teams will move on to compete for the American League pennant. Game 1, starting at 4 p.m. ET, has the Toronto Blue Jays against the Texas Rangers. The Blue Jays fought back in this best-of-five series after the Rangers took the first two games, and now have home-field advantage, and the momentum, for this decisive fifth game. Then, at 8 p.m. ET, it’s the Houston Astros vs. the Kansas City R

Many of the documentaries and TV news pieces about elephants these days are horrifying, grisly stories about ivory poachers, who kill these giant animals just for the value of their tusks. This documentary, Soul of the Elephant, goes another route, focusing on what may be one of the only spots left on the planet where elephants can, and do, die of old age. And then it asks us to imagine, and in part experience, the life and life span of those animals. For a full story, and interview with the nat

The synopsis for tonight’s episode promises the making of a music video – and that, in itself, ought to make this hour very, very watchable. And with Cookie around, the behind-the-scenes antics are bound to be no less energetic.

Dick Wolf’s Law & Order series – all of them – have enjoyed getting inspiration from recent headlines, and starting with a topical and familiar-sounding story, then spinning it into unexpected directions. Tonight’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit does just that, by starting with a police officer’s shooting of an unarmed black man.

Last week’s premiere set the stage for this new, Lady Gaga-led iteration of American Horror Story – and drew a large number of viewers. It also drew new viewers, Lady Gaga fans, who may have been totally unprepared for the violence in this series – but it was consistent, in tone and content, with previous seasons. The real question is whether tonight’s second episode, now that the setting and characters have been introduced, will go in an interesting direction.
