The new season continues, with a new direction (Julianna Margulies’ Alicia dealing with new judges and clients in a new legal setting), new plot lines (Chris Noth’s Peter running for Vice President), and new cast members (Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Margo Martindale, among others). All of these changes pay off instantly, and brilliantly, so enjoy.

SEASON PREMIERE: Last season ended with a cliffhanger, with the long-awaited reunion of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Morgan (Lennie James), who had met each other back in the series pilot. Morgan had made his entrance just in time to see Rick coldly execute another man – not a walker, but a fellow human being. And this season, we see how Morgan reacts to that discovery, as well as how the gated community reacts to hordes of suddenly advancing walkers.

By doubling its story line, this series hasn’t gotten twice as interesting – but it has given the writers and actors lots of new areas and perspectives to explore. And in the early episodes, that’s interesting – though there’s a little less of the he-said-she-said direct comparisons that made Season 1 so singularly compelling.

Ted Danson, who’s put on his parka and thermal underwear to join the second season of FX’s Fargo, has a simple suggestion for how viewers might orient themselves to the show’s sometimes-quirky world...

Apparently a lot of Fargo fans have decided that if Noah Hawley could pull off the impossible by adapting their beloved movie into a TV series once, then maybe, heck, he could do it again...

In yesterday’s Game 1, the Chicago Cubs fought valiantly against the St. Louis Cardinals, but the Cards’ one-run first-inning lead held up until the eighth inning, when the Cards added three more. The Cubs managed only three hits in the entire game – an offensive output that has to improve if the team hopes to even things with tonight’s Game 2, which starts at 5:30 p.m. ET. Then at 9 ET, also on TBS, it’s Game 2 of the New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers series. T

Tonight’s episode is titled “I’m a Dead Man Walking,” and has our hero (Peter Capaldi) looking very much like a hollowed-eye spectre himself. Is there a Doctor in the haunted house?

SERIES PREMIERE: Game of Thrones has done so well with HBO, drawing viewers as well as earning acclaim and Emmys, that it’s no surprise that rival networks and TV producers are seeking to mount similar costume dramas set in centuries long ago. FX’s The Bastard Executioner, this season, is one, and now here’s another. It’s a British import set in the mid-800s.  And no, I didn’t drop a numeral there. This is another Vikings saga, this time from the British point

SEASON PREMIERE: Postponed by BBC America from last week, tonight’s episode really should be the new one with Matt Damon, kicking off Season 18 of this raucous British talk show. I said this last week, but it bears repeating: The last time Damon was on the show, alongside Mill Murray and Hugh Bonneville, he told Norton at the end it was the best time he’d ever had on a talk show.
