What eventually was called World War I was full of stories of flying aces and aerial dogfights, but that war over Europe introduced another type of flying warfare as well: the zeppelin, floating passenger craft commissioned by the German army and navy for use during the war. Most of the flights were for reconnaissance, but there were bombing missions as well, over England, with the sight of the giant dirigibles often striking as much fear into the locals as the bombs themselves. The witches under the care of Fiona (Jessica Lange) have a common enemy, but can’t seem to get along with one another, either. Last week, one witch was entombed alive, while another was drowned in a bathtub – and both of these were what could be classified as “witch-on-witch crimes.” But just because those witches are dead and/or buried, that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing them again. On this series, quite the contrary. Take Kathy Bates as Delphine, for examp

This 1973 movie, starring Timothy Bottoms as a first-year law student who fights through the classes of crusty Professor Kingsfield (John Houseman), is the movie I showed my daughter, Kristin, the weekend before she went away to attend law school. It scared her to death, she said later, but also prepared her for how seriously to take law school from the start. And she’s been a lawyer for years now so it worked. “Here’s a dime, Mr. Hart…”

I can’t help but be amused when a promotional video with a running time of less than two minutes jumps out at me amid all of the extraordinary material that I have been surrounded by during the last week [at TCA]...

Today, both Hulu and Hulu Plus unveil a much-awaited drama series import: Bron/Broen, the original inspiration for the American version, FX's The Bridge. In this original version, the bridge in question, instead of being a border crossing between the U.S. and Mexico, separates Denmark and Sweden, with mismatched detectives teaming to solve the same grisly murder case. Sofia Helen plays Saga Noren, the detective on the Swedish side, and Kim Bodnia plays Danish inspector Martin Rhode. Hulu is roll

What a year, and what a treatment from American Experience. The Civil Rights Act. The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show.  The Gulf of Tonkin resolution. And so much more, put into a context that’s more thoughtful than merely a compendium of clips. For a full review, see the TVWW Guest Contributor column by Gary R. Edgerton.

At Sunday’s Golden Globes, Andy Samberg was a surprise winner in the category of best actor, comedy or musical, and his freshman Fox series, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, also won as best sitcom, beating out Modern Family, Girls and other expected favorites. If you haven’t see Brooklyn Nine-Nine yet, this is a very good time to start – and keep your eye on Andre Braugher, who is as good here at comedy as he was at drama in Homicide: Life on the Street.

Kim Jong-Un is the youngest dictator in the world, and aside from his bizarre kinship with Dennis Rodman, not much is known about him, at least by the general public. Well, anyone who tunes in tonight to Frontline will learn a lot more – about Jong-Un, and about North Korea in 2014. Check local listings.

Tonight’s episode is called “The Kids Aren’t All Right,” and reunites Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) with one of his most unpredictable acquaintances: Loretta McCready, the young orphan played by Kaitlyn Dever. She was the young character, and actress, at the center of the Justified season which found Raylan in a lengthy, tricky duel of wits with ruthless Mags Bennett, played so brilliantly by Margo Martindale.

Governor Chris Christie has said he's been to 129 Springsteen concerts but it's a good bet he never heard this version of Born to Run, one of the most brilliant performances in a barrage of comic riffs on the New Jersey scandal...
