Killing Eve, the fabulous BBC America series created by Fleabag star and creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is based on a highly unusual premise and dynamic. A female investigator (played by Sandra Oh) becomes obsessed with tracking down a woman (played by Jodie Comer) who has left several bodies in her wake around the globe, and trying to pin her to those murders – while, at the same time, becoming increasingly fascinated by and emotionally attracted to her. Two female leads &nd

In this era, when so much is available to watch on streaming TV and elsewhere yet so little from previous decades is seen, the appearance of a silent film – in prime time, on high-profile TCM – warms my heart. Tonight at 8 p.m. ET, TCM presents The Kid, a 1921 film produced, written and directed by Charlie Chaplin, who also stars. He plays his iconic character of The Tramp, who in this full-length film – Chaplin’s first, after a string of shorts – finds an

MINISERIES PREMIERE: This six-part miniseries comes from Russell T. Davies, who put the Why back into Doctor Who. So you know Years and Years will be smart, about its characters and plots as well as its technology. And it is. It’s the first TV show that plays like Black Mirror since… well, since Black Mirror. And its premise is brilliantly simple, as well as simply brilliant: It takes an extended, This Is Us-type family (based, in this ca

SEASON PREMIERE: This is the start of the third and final season of Noah Hawley’s breathtakingly original take on a slender slice of the Marvel Comics universe. To describe it at all is to risk falling down a rabbit hole – and that’s something to be avoided, even though Lewis Carroll’s Alice is a primary inspiration here (in a later episode this season, there’s even a tea party, featuring one of the primary characters as an obviously Mad Hatter). In my rev

Yesterday, when writing about opening night of this four-night National Geographic Channel look at the wonders of Yellowstone National Park, I used up my best geyser pun. (And my worst, because they’re the same thing.) I’d stretch for another Yellowstone-related pun related to tonight’s continuation, but I suspect some of you just couldn’t bear it…

The U.S. women’s soccer team, having won all three of its games to dominate Group F in the group stage, doesn’t play again until Monday, when it faces Spain in its Round of 16 knockout stage opener. Meanwhile, this weekend has other teams playing in the same round. Germany defeated Nigeria yesterday 3-0, and Norway, after battling Australia to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation play, won after a 4-1 margin of victory on penalty picks (pictured). And today, England faces Cameroon at 1

SEASON FINALE: Last week’s episode left Luther (Idris Elba), and especially the people Luther cared about, in a horribly precarious situation – with Benny, Mark and Alice held at gunpoint, threatened with imminent death, and with Luther too far away to do anything but beg by phone, pleading for their lives. What happened to close last week’s episode was shocking – and whatever follows tonight, in the opening minutes of this season finale, will propel whatever occurs in th

I loved The Good Wife, and I love this CBS All Access spinoff as well. But not on CBS, where all I see and hear when I tune in is what’s been edited from this CBS prime-time rebroadcast of the streaming TV drama, for either time constraints or broadcast TV censorial standards. My recommendation: If you didn’t, and don’t plan to, watch The Good Fight on CBS All Access, but are still interested in watching this excellent drama series from Robert and Michelle K

There are going to be tons of TV specials as we land on the actual golden anniversary of the day Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon as part of the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969. But tonight, CNN embarks a little early, getting a head start and presenting a new documentary with what it claims is “newly discovered cinematic footage.” I guess CNN could have called it “newly unearthed,” but that seems technically inaccurate. And “newly unmooned” – well, th

Season 1 of Big Little Lies was all about discovering the secret – which, at the literal end of the miniseries, turned out to be who was killed, how the killing took place, and the identity of the killer. When David E. Kelley’s story adaptation proved so popular that it generated an order for a sequel, and the miniseries became a series, this new Season 2 has been all about those big little lies leaking out. And leaking, at first, from the mouths of babes. But now, the secr
