Both seasons, when CNN first rolled out its History of Comedy series as a weekly weekend showcase, breaking news intervened, and caused certain episodes of the documentary series to be pre-empted by live news coverage. So tonight, when CNN takes some of the best episodes and schedules them in a five-hour Saturday night block, it’s worth noting. Especially when Saturday Night Live isn’t live this week.

SEASON PREMIERE: Does Arrested Development, despite its history of long hiatuses and unexpected reincarnations, still have its bite and edge and humor? Absolutely. And even before the opening credits kick in, this latest Development not only reminds us where we left off, it reminds us, and proves again, how funny this show is, and how dry and gifted each and every one of its cast members is.

SERIES PREMIERE: This new anthology series presents 18 animated shorts, in a new anythology series that is definitely intended for mature audiences. Or, at least, adult ones. It’s like a 21st century Heavy Metal, with each episode telling a different, unrelated sci-fi story.

Brooks and Wilder pull iconic bits of inspiration from not only the original Frankenstein film, but its sequels, to mount and nail its most iconic set pieces. Wilder is sheer comic genius. Then again, so are Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr – and, of course, Brooks himse

SEASON PREMIERE: Season 3 begins tonight, bringing a new set of issues and battles, in and out of court, to the characters (and writers) of The Good Fight. This sequel to CBS’s equally excellent The Good Wife seems all but banished on the network’s premium streaming site – but if you pay for its monthly subscription fee, The Good Fight remains the best original production on the site. The Twilight Zone reboot, arriving next month, may change that. Or may not. Christine Baranski

TCM host Ben Mankiewicz and his guest for this month-long Thursday night tour of movies and the media, Carl Bernstein, hold court over another prime-time celebration of some of the cinema’s best movies about the media. Ace in the Hole, from 1951, starts things off at 8 p.m. ET, starring Kirk Douglas (pictured) as a newspaper reporter who is as competitive, and manipulative, as any of his print or radio or TV competitors. Then comes Sweet Smell of Success, the 1957 classic starring Burt Lan
