MIDSEASON FINALE: In the most recent episode of this always surprising and evolving series, Michael’s inhuman assistant Janet saved the day – then saved everyone by whisking them into her realm. It’s a mystical place we’ve never seen, but is the place where Janet, and all her lookalike, Siri-like counterparts, were created. And tonight’s new episode, the last before a two-month hiatus, is called “Janet(s),” so I’m guessing we’re going to enco

SEASON PREMIERE: This American version of The Great British Bake-Off lasted only a few episodes into its third season when it was pulled after one of its judges, pastry chef Johnny Iuzzini, was accused of several counts of sexual misconduct. He’s gone for this holiday-themed, and holiday-timed, Season 4, which pairs returning judge Paul Hollywood with new judge Sherry Yard. And as the hosts this season, ABC is presenting Anthony Adams and former Spice Girl Emma Bunton, a.k.a. Baby Spice. I

SEASON PREMIERE: After a marvelous Season 1, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel stunned everyone at the most recent Emmy awards – winning, among other things, best supporting actress (Alex Borstein, as Midge Maisel’s dedicated manager), best actress (Rachel Brosnanan, in the title role), best comedy writing (for co-creator Amy Sherman-Palladino), and, the biggest plum of all for Amazon, Outstanding Comedy Series. Each and every Emmy was well deserved – and Tony Shalhoub, as Midge’

An eight-film salute to Sophia Loren tonight begins at 8 ET with 1964’s cracklingly funny Marriage, Italian Style, co-starring Marcello Mastroianni, and includes, at 10:45 p.m. ET, Loren’s 2016 live-on-stage interview at that year’s TCM Film Festival. The photo is from Marriage, Italian Style, and I choose it purely in my guise as a cinematic historian. Right, guise?

More and more television shows, you may have noticed, never really die. They seem to, then spring back to life. They’re zombies. In a good way...

Yesterday, the top 10 contestants sang on live TV to stick around – and a lot of them sang not only before the country, but sang country. Tonight, there’s an instant save in play, but there’s also a double elimination.

MIDSEASON FINALE: Everyone’s cornered, or angry, or both – and for this confrontational midseason finale, Polaris (at right) has not only a new intensity, and a new mission, but a newly fashioned (and, to her, meaningful) headband.

Michael Cimino’s 1980 film has a reputation as a colossal waste of money (and, to some, celluloid), but time and perspective has given the film a brighter sheen – at least among those willing to revisit, with an open mind, the director’s cut re-edit of Cimino’s original vision. MGM shows that tonight, at full length – and with such always interesting stars as Christopher Walken, Jeff Bridges, Sam Waterston, Brad Dourif, John Hurt, Isabelle Huppert, and Kris Kristoff
