There are passages in HBO’s new comedy Sally4Ever where you wish you could text someone in the production office to be assured it’s okay to laugh...

This 1979 movie is a treasure – if you haven’t seen it, watch or record it today so you can rectify that oversight. Peter Yates directs a coming-of-age story that has less to do with sex than with place, class and dreams, and takes place in Indianapolis, against the canvas of the real-life bicycle race held there each year. Dennis Christopher, Daniel Stern, Dennis Quaid and Jackie Earle Haley star as the quartet of close friends, most of whom are on the cusp of completing high school

This is the first edition of The Circus after Tuesday’s midterm election – so there’s an awful lot to show, and the behind-the-scenes drama is still being played out, on many fronts. And in many back rooms, and on just as many protest lines…

This is the first episode without Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, who left at the end of  last week’s installment very nearly dead – but who, it seems, destined to live, to fight another day (and be featured, reports have it, in a series of Walking Dead movies). And Negan managed to live as well – so what happens from now on? That’s the big question, and the focus of tonight’s episode.

Last night, Liev Schreiber demonstrated his versatility as an actor, working his way through a series of convincingly and impressively different accents, looks and characters as the guest host of Saturday Night Live. In one sketch alone, when Kate McKinnon was cracking him up with her antics, he smiled more than he has on Ray Donovan since its inception. Watch tonight’s episode, and play a drinking game: Every time Ray smiles, take a shot. You’ll go to bed sober – and thirsty.

SEASON FINALE: This Jim Carrey series has gotten darker every episode – so for the season finale, expect about 50 shades of grey.

This is one of TV’s best and smartest shows, and it’s a worthwhile and often educational viewing experience no matter the week’s topic. But after the midterm election, my expectations are especially high...

It’s a slow night – but I can use a little slow these days, even on my TV. So the only thing on TV I’m pointing out today is the new installment of SNL, with guest host, and Ray Donovan star, Liev Schreiber (whose first name I cannot type without my computer auto-incorrecting it to “Live”). Musical guest: Lil Wayne.
