There are only a few episodes left of this sitcom, which tackles and treats issues in ways that make it one of NBC’s best shows. So watch while you can. Tonight, in a new episode, Bobby (Lil Rel Howery) gets hurt on the job, and decides to go college to improve his prospects. Maxine (Amber Stevens West) is behind him all the way, but not most of the Carmichaels – especially when Bobby reveals his intended major.

Here’s another series with only a few episodes left – but this one has a mystery to solve, though the plot this week gets ticker, not thinner. But as a character study, and a display of fine understated acting, Broadchurch has delivered throughout.

SERIES PREMIERE: This import from Canada is created by, and stars, four women: Carolyn Taylor, Aurora Browne, Jennifer Whalen, and Meredith MacNeill. Add it to the list of sketch comedy shows showcasing women, a list that stretches from French and Saunders to Inside Amy Schumer – then watch it, because it’s very funny, and also fairly fresh. I’d like to see how Samantha Bee would handle a slow news week. But that’s only because I’m desperate, after six months, for a slow news week.

Today and tonight, TCM is devoting its schedule to Marilyn Monroe. This makes room for plenty of her classics, including 1956’s Bus Stop at 6 p.m. ET and 1953’s Niagara at 10 p.m. ET. But the real treat, leading off prime time, is 1955’s The Seven Year Itch, co-starring Tom Ewell. He plays a Fifties-era Madison Avenue advertising genius – a prototype for Don Draper of Mad Men, only frumpier – and she plays an apartment neighbor upon whom he projects his romantic fan

MINISERIES CONCLUSION: In this final episode, photographer Joel Sartore takes his nature photography to a tighter focus than before – and spends a lot of time taking pictures of insects. For a full review, see David Hinckley’s All Along the Watchtower. Check local listings.

MINISERIES PREMIERE: This eight-part Discovery miniseries is a scripted dramatic show – the first major such effort by this network, and an unqualified success. It stars Paul Bettany as Ted Kaczynski, and Sam Worthington as FBI profiler James Fitzgerald, who pursued the Unabomber for years. Not every scene is to be believed in this fact-based drama, but the drama itself is undeniable. AXS is saluting Elvis this month, and this early salvo is his 1970 concert documentary. It’s an intimate, sweaty portrait that captures Elvis Presley making a well-designed, energetically performed comeback – and making his white jumpsuit an iconic fashion statement at the same time.

Maybe the biggest surprise about USA’s dark new series The Sinner is that it isn’t based on a story from Scandinavia. Instead, it’s based on a story from Germany. Close enough...
