One of the proposed films in the Superman movie canon was a film planned for 1998, starring Nicolas Cage as the Man of Steel. It never got made, but this 2015 documentary is a behind-the-scenes story telling why. It may not have the class and veneer of The Epic That Never Was, that fabulous documentary about the aborted Charles Laughton movie version of I, Claudius – but these films about filmmaking always fascinate me.

This 1963 movie was one of my favorite films growing up – and it still is. Starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, it’s an ultra-stylish story about a young widow in Paris pursued by murderous thieves in search of her late husband’s allegedly hidden, illegally obtained fortune. The city of Paris is filmed beautifully by Stanley Donen, who also makes the most of the obvious chemistry between Grant and Hepburn. I consider this the best Hitchcock movie Alfred Hitchcock never made

Taped last winter during a nasty snowstorm that provided a snowglobe look outside the Lincoln Center Appel Room windows, this salute to Broadway veteran Chita Rivera pairs an intimate new cabaret performance of hers with remembrances and other sweet touches. She originated the roles of Anita in West Side Story and Velma in Chicago, and so, so much more – all of which is sampled, and celebrated, in this loving concert performance, sprinkled generously with film clips and testimonials. For a

I’ve been waiting for a collection of this groundbreaking 1971-72 PBS series to be released on home video for decades – ever since I bought my first Sony Betamax in 1977. Well, it took a while, but here it is...

“He didn’t try to do a caricature or an impression,” Dan Rather told me. “He just tried to capture some of the essence of the person.” Rather was sharing his thoughts about Robert Redford’s performance in the role of Rather in the movie Truth...

Amazon’s tradition of revealing its pilot presentations, and allowing viewers to watch and vote and for buzz to build, has been going on for years now – and last time around, offered us an early look at Frank Spotnitz’s The Man in the High Castle, a bold new series better than any broadcast network TV drama this fall. High Castle arrives, the entire Season 1, later this month on Amazon. Today, meanwhile, the streaming service presents its newest crop. Included in the mix: Comed

NEW NIGHT: Last year, when CBS first launched its Thursday Night Football franchise, The Big Bang Theory started the season on Monday nights, then moved to anchor Thursday once the CBS run of mid-week games reverted solely to NFL Network. That happens again this year, with tonight’s episode – an episode that, like CBS in general this week, is obsessed with Star Trek. Guest stars include recurring player Wil Wheaton of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

SEASON FINALE: Part 2 of 2. If you’ve been watching this series, tonight’s the night Project Runway selects a new winner. That’s true even if you haven’t been watching – but if you have, you’re probably more invested in the outcome.
