SERIES PREMIERE: This is not a recommendation. This new Netflix genre series stars Sivan Alyra Rose as a teen girl who is given a heart transplant after her own heart suddenly stops (during sex, on her first encounter). The heart, from another teen girl donor (played in flashbacks and other scenes by Lilliya Scarlett Reid), begins to affect and infect the recipient’s personality and memories – a horror trope so old it seems transplanted from dozens of familiar movies and anthology TV

This is Bill Maher’s first time on HBO since the Mueller report was released (Maher was off last Friday) – and since Joe Biden just entered the race Thursday, bringing the number of Democratic hopefuls in the presidential contest to an even 20, Maher probably will have a lot to say, even before he gets to this week’s scheduled guests, who include Adam Schiff, Grover Norquist and Bob Costas.

In this new episode, one of the few remaining before Big Bang implodes into that big TV black hole in the sky, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) publishes a paper in which he claims to have discovered alien life. Presumably, he’s not referring to Sheldon…

SERIES FINALE: This is the 100th episode of Gotham, and, even though it’s called “The Beginning,” it’s also the end. Like Smallville, this TV series based on the origin story of a costumed hero from DC Comics has made its way to the point where its protagonist finally comes close to donning his famous crime-fighting costume. But Gotham gets there by making a leap of faith, and of time, moving its narrative 10 years into the future – or, at least, 10 years after the

SEASON FINALE: This is the Season 2 finale of this affectionate Star Trek homage, and it continues the confusing playing-with-fire story introduced in the first part of this two-part season ender. Kelly, played by Adrianne Palicki, continues to confront her past… and, literally, her younger past self (pictured), while dealing with a strange new reality.

Today’s new episode is called “Bonnie & Clyde” – and, like its gangster namesake, features a loving couple on the lam. In this case, the couple is Gypsy and Nick – and when Gypsy’s new romance, and her new life away from her mom, doesn’t live up to her fantasies, things don’t look to end that well for this Bonnie and Clyde either. And next week, this very dark, very well-acted series concludes.

SERIES PREMIERE: This new Netflix series is daringly different, in way more ways than one. This seven-episode introductory season is aggressively, confidently short, with each episode running 15 minutes or less, so the entire thing can be consumed in less time than it takes to watch. And it’s concentrated, serving up undiluted doses of both comedy and drama, with a surprising assurance, given its edgy subject matter. The show’s writer-director is Rightor Doyle, who plays Nick Nicholb

The news that Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster will star in a new Broadway revival of this musical at the end of 2020 is reason enough to revisit this 1962 film version, which starred Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. The movie’s two leads were superb – and I expect no less, and maybe even more, from Jackman and Foster.
