O’Shea Jackson Jr. (pictured) stars as Ice Cube in this 2015 dramatization of the rise of the rap group N.W.A. – which is noteworthy, as is the family resemblance, because his father, O’Shea Jackson Sr., is Ice Cube. Corey Hawkins plays Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell portrays Eazy-E – and Paul Giamatti plays the white guy music manager who sees the potential in their angry stage presence and defiant lyrics. If you don’t know what N.W.A. stands for, you’ll know as soo

Yesterday, in the first round of this year’s British Open, Phil Mickelson came within a coulda-made-it putt of shooting a 62 – which would have been the lowest score in any round of any major championship in history. As is, he walked off with an eight-under-par 63, setting himself up for a day two that promises to be much less friendly, weather-wise. Golf Channel provides live coverage until 4 p.m. ET.

SERIES PREMIERE: Winona Ryder stars as the mother of a missing boy in this new Netflix series, an eight-part supernatural thriller set in Indiana in 1983. For those old and warped enough to remember the 1991 TV series Eerie, Indiana, this may seem like a super-nostalgic blast from the past. And that may be a fair description of what series creators Matt and Ross Duffer, currently of Fox’s Wayward Pines, are after. For a full review, see Ed Bark’s Uncle Barky’s Bytes.

This rarely televised action-adventure film is about a trio of adventurers who band together in search of Nazi gold hidden in the African desert. I mention it mostly because when you hear the movie’s title these days, it’s usually referring to another government subcommittee investigation.

Twenty years ago, NBC went into partnership with Microsoft to create a new cable network, and even gave Microsoft top billing, by launching MSNBC in 1996. The partnership didn’t last, but the network and its name did. Tonight, in a prime-time special, MSNBC looks at 20 key news events from as many years, as reported and commented upon by the MSNBC staffers at the time.
