Hey, procrastinators, take heart. The Science Channel is repeating last night’s prime-time special compilation of the best solar eclipse views from across the continental U.S. – so if you missed it yesterday, here’s another chance. And you can also go back and listen to Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” again, in which she sang of her song’s self-satisfied subject, “You flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia / to see a total eclipse of the sun.&rd

Part 4. This fact-based miniseries takes a lot of dramatic license, but it also boasts some good performances, and has the capability of making you think about the Unabomber’s manifesto, and the search for him, long after each episode is over. Now if I’m stopped at a traffic signal late at night, I think of the Unabomber. I’m not sure that’s a good thing – but it’s one more thing TV has given me over the years. Paul Bettany (pictured) stars as the Unabomber, T

A gambler is hired by a casino owner to work in his Buenos Aires casino – and learns, when he gets there, that the casino owner also has employed the gambler’s ex-wife. Glenn Ford stars as the gambler, and this is supposed to be his movie – and, on TCM, his day – but 1946’s Gilda is stolen by the actress playing the title role: Rita Hayworth, playing one of the cinema’s most iconic femmes fatale.

Our tribute to Jerry Lewis continues with this Martin Short homage to Lewis from his old SCTV days (1982-3). Short proved himself a brilliant comic and impressionist early, playing Lewis as surreally appearing in atypical film roles – once as the Robert Duvall character in Tender Mercies and in this one, an Ingmar Bergman send-up entitled “Scenes From an Idiots Marriage"...

Today’s rare occurrence of a total solar eclipse, an event tracked today in a narrow swath across the entire continental United States, is so monumental – and, to most of us at TVWW, so universally cool – that it eclipses all other programming on TV today. At least on Bianculli’s Best Bets, which today provides an all-eclipse addition. Science Channel is the most prominent to go on cable, and will be providing live coverage, from coast to coast, as the celestial event wor

While Science Channel is televising the eclipse live all day, other TV operations are recording it for their own purposes, and not just for live streaming sites. On PBS, for example, the venerable science series Nova is presenting a special tonight that not only presents the best eclipse views from across the country, but also people’s reactions to them. For full previews of this TV event, on Nova and elsewhere, see Alec Strachan’s TV That Matters and David Hinckley’s All Along

And after following and televising the events visible in the U.S. path of the 2017 solar eclipse, and doing it live, Science Channel crashes on deadline to present its own prime-time special: The Great American Eclipse. And it’s scheduled to stress not only the best images from the clearest skies across the country, but also tastes of the many experiments being carried out during the eclipse itself. One important TVWW reminder: If you’re going outside to witness the eclipse yourself,
