TCM’s futuristic Fridays conclude tonight, with one last rundown of sci-fi movies, most showing dystopian futures. Here’s a particular favorite: a 1974 comedy-drama about a futuristic loner who roams dangerous territory with his telepathic, much smarter dog...

SEASON PREMIERE: To start the season, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) is at sea – and not, as usual, in the proverbial, general sense. This time it’s literal. And tentacled.

SEASON PREMIERE: To start Season 6, Leslie (Amy Poehler) takes a trip to London. Hey, I’m heading there very soon myself… but do I expect to see her there? Knope.

SERIES PREMIERE: The premiere installment of this new Fox show (on NBC, but you know what I meant) isn’t quite up to the standards of excellence I was hoping for, given Fox’s brilliant comedic work in Family Ties and Spin City. But there’s a fine ensemble here (Breaking Bad’s Betsy Brandt, as his wife, is an especially shrewd bit of casting), and there’s nothing at all wrong with Fox. SEASON PREMIERE: Part 1 of 2. For the first shows back without the late Cory Monteith, Glee is providing a substantial distraction: a two-part episode built around the music of the Beatles. American Idol usually tanks when it takes on the Lennon-McCartney catalog, but Glee, when Chris Colfer’s Kurt sang a slow, soulful “I Want to Hold Your Hand” a while back, did it beautifully. So there’s hope. And there’s nothing they can sing that can’t be sung. It’s

SERIES PREMIERE: Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar play father and daughter, both running their family ad agency, in this new CBS comedy. The premiere uses Kelly Clarkson well, and mentions McDonald’s a lot, but only hints at the possibilities of this pairing, especially with David E. Kelley behind the scenes. But because of all these players, and the premise, I expect this show to develop, and sharpen, quickly. For a full review, see Ed Bark’s Uncle Barky’s Bytes.
