Coming cold to the BBC America series Orphan Black is a little like stumbling on one of Einstein’s notebooks. Your first thought will not be, “Hey, I got this.”...

SEASON PREMIERE: Orange Is the New Black is back for Season 5, resuming where last season’s cliffhanger left off: with a prison riot. And the ramifications of that, much more serious and less playful than previous seasons, makes this latest round of OITNB a much darker shade of orange.

MOVIE PREMIERE: This is a somewhat unexpected surprise little treat – a made-for-Netflix movie that’s laced with lots of comedy and comic actors, yet works effectively as a mystery drama, and has an unusual story structure as well. Shimmer Lake begins a few days after a small-town bank robbery, investigated by local police and the visiting FBI, then works its way backwards, day by day. And each day the plot goes in reverse, the more we learn about not only the bank robbery, but the c

The Golden State Warriors have a 3-0 edge against the Cleveland Cavaliers in this year’s series – so if the Cavs are going to repeat their come-from-behind victory from last year’s championship, the team will have to dig itself out from an even deeper hole, and not lose a single one of the next four games. Otherwise, the Warriors have won it all again, as was the case two years ago.

Director Mark Kidel, relying on an unpublished autobiography by Cary Grant, delves deeply into the private thoughts and insecurities of the actor who embodied the cinematic ideal of the suave leading man. Various Beltway power players and national TV ads are calling today’s scheduled Senate Intelligence Committee Hearing testimony, by former FBI director James Comey, either a vanity appearance by “just another DC insider” or a political event so important, “Watergate pales” in comparison. Its significance, at least as evaluated by the mass media, is measured by its availability as a live TV event. Not only will it be covered on live TV by the 24-hour cable news netwo

The Pittsburgh Penguins, after battling its way to the Stanley Cup finals with a double-overtime Game 7 victory, started the 2017 championships handily, beating the Nashville Predators in the first two games. Then the Predators countered with a pair of scrappy wins of its own. Tonight is Game 5, and this year’s Stanley Cup is now, in effect, a best-of-3, winner-take-all series.

After today’s Comey testimony at the Senate Intelligence Committee Hearing, there will be lots of places to turn for analysis and commentary. Allow me to select two, one from each end of the political spectrum. First up, a 9 p.m. ET, is MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, which just won the monthly cable-news battle as the most popular program, among viewers 25-54, for the first time.
