Since Showtime is giving this new documentary another showcase, so will I: It’s a thoroughly engrossing study of the band, as loaded with great music as it is with unexpected details and frank insights, even about their formative days backing Linda Ronstadt.

In one respect, this year’s NBA finals don’t sound so exciting: Game 1 was close, but the next four have been blowouts. But the two teams, the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs, have traded blowouts, each of them bouncing back after a defeat to trounce the opposition with a thrilling extended scoring streak. For Miami, the guy to watch, hot or cold, is LeBron James, but the star of the Spurs has turned out to be someone much more unlikely: Danny Green, whose three-point shooting alrea

SEASON FINALE: Last night’s final performance competition of the season was a bit bloated, but made it clear that the winner should be, and most likely will be, one of the two women. And since 16-year-old country singer Danielle Bradbery not only elicited the most praise from the judges, but is coached by multiple Voice victor Blake Shelton, I’m guessing she’ll walk away with the crown tonight. The Voice has yet to launch a recording star, but Bradbery, especially with Shelton&

The final singers appear in their last night of competition, before a winner is selected in tomorrow’s season finale. Only coaches Blake Shelton and Usher have representatives in this last round: Shelton has two country acts, the Swon Brothers and young Danielle Bradbery, and Usher has Michelle Chamuel. If you have trouble telling them apart – and you shouldn’t – remember that Danielle is perky, Michelle is quirky, and the Swon siblings are kind of jerky.

There have been two games this far in this year’s Stanley Cup finals, and both of them have gone into overtime. In Game 1, the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins played the full game in regulation, and several overtimes, before the Blackhawks prevailed with a victory. In Game 2, there was more extended ice time – but this time, in overtime, the Bruins won. And tonight, for at least as long as it takes in regulation, the Bruins and Blackhawks face off for Game 3.

This 1992 movie is your standard romantic melodrama, but with music – and it’s the music that makes it. Kevin Costner stars in the title role, as a gruff guy guarding a flashy musical diva, but it’s the diva who demands attention. She’s played by Whitney Houston, and, in this role, Houston is very impressive, captured at the top of her form, and her game.

Stewart Granger and Eleanor Parker star in this 1952 swashbuckler. More than 60 years later, it’s most valuable for its vivid color schemes, its outrageous costumes, and to watch Parker, who wears more different looks than any movie about 18th-century France should logically support. Also featured: Janet Leigh, eight years before Psycho.

Liz Garbus, whose documentaries include the delightful Bobby Fischer Against the World,  wrote and directed this intimate examination of Marilyn Monroe – focusing on her mind, not her body. Using her letters and diaries as primary sources, this film retraces Monroe’s career and romances, and solicits comments from celebrities along the way, some of whom read from those writings. The list of participants includes Glenn Close, Ellen Burstyn, Uma Thurman, Evan Rachel Wood, and, yes
