WATERGATE

DOCUMENTARY SERIES PREMIERE: Part 2 of 3. The best thing about this new, multi-part Watergate documentary by Charles Ferguson is its thoroughness, and its ability to place so much in the proper historical and social context of the late Sixties and early Seventies. The worst part? Its “historical re-enactments” of the Nixon tapes. I’d just as soon hear the real thing throughout, with no visuals, as watch actors read and act out the words, and imagined postures and movements, of Richard Nixon and companies. These reenactments are distracting. The rest of this Watergate, though, is illuminating.
