SUNDAY’S BEST: CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF CBS SUNDAY MORNING
September 14, 2018  | By David Bianculli  | 3 comments

CBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

CBS’s flagship Sunday Morning program began with the quiet dignity and soft poetry of Charles Kuralt, and has worked hard to reflect that high standard ever since, making the Sunday program the TV equivalent of a well-written, wide-ranging Sunday newspaper. Today, for an hour, CBS celebrates its 40th anniversary – one of the very few causes CBS has, right now, to celebrate.

What David wrote is mostly true except the original intent to cover Jazz,TV,etc. has disappeared since Charles Osgood took charge, mostly. The Nature scene is rarely one minute long and Jane Pauley has had a lot of days off thus far. It was so unique in January 1979 when it started with Mr.On the Road,Charles Kuralt that the current version often ignores its roots. It is still worth watching.
