HOW IT ENDS
July 13, 2018  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

Netflix, 3:00 a.m. ET

MOVIE PREMIERE: All I need to tell you about How It Ends, this new Netflix movie, is How It Begins. Will, a lawyer played by Theo James, learns that his girlfriend Samantha, played by Kat Graham, is pregnant. He travels from Seattle to Chicago to ask her father, played by Forest Whitaker, for permission to marry her – but suddenly, communication from the West Coast is cut off, and it’s clear there’s some sort of apocalyptic event going on. The father, an ex-military, decides to cross half the country to get her, and asks, or dares, the husband-to-be to come along. Suddenly, it’s a Mad Max road trip… and, for How It Ends, that’s just the start. But why stay for the rest? The best thing about this new Netflix offering is that it’s a movie, not a series. That way, How It Ends is… more quickly.

The comment about it being a movie and not a series is so relevant and on point. I just finished watching the first season of Jessica Jones (yes I'm late to the party) and they could have easily made the series in eight episodes instead of the way too drawn out 13 episodes.
