SEASON FINALE: What happens in tonight’s season finale episode is less important, in the long run, than this series’ long run itself. This is the Season 19 finale for Special Victims Unit, which means that, like CBS’s NCIS, a 15-season spinoff from JAG, this long-running Law & Order spinoff has enjoyed an unusually long and popular existence. In fact, when it completes 20 seasons at the end of next year, it’ll match the dauntingly durable record set by the mother ship series itself.
