The overall effect of this year’s ceremony, taped last month in Cleveland, might well be doesn’t even bother to show up. Ironically, he fails to follow the advice in the opening lines of “Money for Nothing,” the hit song and video (pictured) that made his band popular in 1985: “Now look at them yo-yo’s, that’s the way you do it / You play the guitar on the MTV / That ain’t workin’, that’s the way you do it / Money for nothin’ and chicks for free…”.
