The plots and characters in these opening episodes of Rise, a new Jason Katims drama series revolving around high school life, are a little too pat and predictable thus far. But the idea of doing a Friday Night Lights kind of series, with a musical theater program replacing football, has lots of promise, even with Glee already exploring that territory.
