THE TERROR

SERIES PREMIERE: This new AMC drama, based on the historically inspired novel by Dan Simmons, tells the story of two ill-fated sea voyages during the 19th century, by the H.M.S. ships Erebus and Terror.  About two decades before America’s Civil War, they became trapped in the North Atlantic ice, working their way through the still-unknown lengths of the Northwest Passage. Simmons injects what may be a supernatural element, but the natural horrors are frightening enough. Ciaran Hinds and (pictured) Jared Harris play the ship’s respective captains, and this 10-part adventure plays with claustrophobia and helplessness like a Das Boot on ice. For a full review, see David Hinckley's All Along the Watchtower.
