THE GRAPES OF WRATH
February 11, 2018  | By David Bianculli

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s prime-time lineup in TCM’s month-long “31 Days of Oscar” schedule salutes some Best Director winners – starting with 1940’s The Grapes of Wrath, an adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel that won that honor for director John Ford. Ford won on three other occasions, making him the most honored director in Academy Award history. In Grapes of Wrath, Henry Fonda stars, in the break-your-heart role of Depression-era everyman Tom Joad.
