AT HOME WITH AMY SEDARIS
October 24, 2017  | By David Bianculli  | 4 comments

TruTV, 10:30 p.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: Amy Sedaris usually is hilarious, but her new showcase series is a mixed bag, with a tone that may not wear well in large doses. In this 10-part comedy series, she plays a TV hostess dispensing advice on cooking, entertaining, exercising, dieting, and other things. Her targets are the likes of Rachel Ray and Martha Stewart – but early tastes of At Home with Amy Sedaris, as a TV character giving advice aimed mostly at female viewers, pale behind Leigh French’s classic, drug-infused “Share a Little Tea with Goldie” sketches from the wonderful 1960s The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.

Well, that mix of satire and lifestyle parody instantly reminded me how comedy helps switch the brain off after a long day. I had a similar urge to disconnect during a rough losing streak and ended up killing time at an online casino I found randomly. After a few dull rounds, chicken road game pushed me to take a bolder risk and the win actually lifted my mood. For players from Kenya the casino offers special bonuses, and that mix of humor, risk, and release worked better than expected.
