SOMEWHERE BETWEEN
July 25, 2017  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

ABC, 10:00 p.m. ET

This new ABC summer series premiered last night, and moves to its regular Tuesday time slot beginning tonight. I didn’t mention it last night, because I don’t really consider this new 10-episode mystery series worth watching. I do, however, consider its source worth mentioning, because it may mark the start of a new trend at ABC. Like The Good Doctor, which premieres on ABC this fall, Somewhere Between is based on a TV series from South Korea – in this case, God’s Gift: 14 Days. Both versions are about a mother (played, in ABC’s version, By Paula Patton) whose young daughter is killed by a mass murderer – but after the mother attempts to drown herself in grief, she emerges to find herself and her family propelled back in time, with the intent to change the future she knows has claimed her daughter once. It isn’t the worst idea for a supernatural drama, but as executed by ABC, it’s far from the best. It’s… Somewhere Between.

I am still trying to figure out Midnight Texas premiere episode on NBC which is either a hoot or not worthy of the True Blood author but Paula Patton is a very good actress so take a look, anyway.
