George Romero’s 1968 zombie movie was filmed in Western Pennsylvania with a total budget of $114,000. Yet look at it now, nearly 50 years later, and it’s impossible to overstate its influence on the horror genre in general, the zombie genre in particular – and The Walking Dead in almost plagiaristic homage.
