SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO
December 5, 2016  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

SPECIAL: One of the Apollo Theater’s long-standing traditions – so long-standing it began in 1934 – is Amateur Night at the Apollo, which launched the careers of artists as varied, and as talented, as James Brown, “Little” Stevie Wonder and the Jackson Five. A syndicated TV show, incorporating the amateur competition along with its more professional acts, ran from 1987 to 2008, with Steve Harvey serving as host for seven of those 21 years. Now Harvey and Showtime at the Apollo are back, for a pair of specials (the second will be broadcast early next year), with Amateur Night, and the infamous hook to escort flopping aspirants offstage, duly represented.

LADY-CAT
Show Is wonderful but your camera work is terrible
The constant panning to the audience Through the entire performance
Totally ruins the appreciation of the performer
We don’t tune in to see the audience faces we too need to see the acts
