They used to forecast the weather. These days, they do everything but. Yes, they still squeeze in the occasional forecast, but what a waste of bandwidth most of the time. Cute on-camera folks, Facebook reports, packages from local affiliates, Twitter trends, half-hour specials about penguins, anything to avoid what they're ostensibly there to do.
