Jon Stewart arose from TV retirement last week (and from underneath Stephen Colbert’s desk at The Late Show) to let loose one of his trademark rants. Apparently, Stewart still has his left-leaning chops, even though he’d been away so long he showed up in a t-shirt, no coat, and no tie. Stewart reprised some of his usual barbs against Fox News, using video segments showing past Fox criticisms of Barack Obama and what should now be similar talking points against the Republican nominee, but aren’t. No matter which side you’re on, you have to admit Stewart hasn’t lost his timing, his dread or his outrage, although we have to think he’s probably better off (and calmer), in retirement. — Eric Gould
