1966: Dr. Seuss' 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' Debuts
December 18, 2020  | By TV WW  | 4 comments

On this day in 1966, CBS introduced the animated version of Dr. Seuss' children's story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Directed by Chuck Jones — an animator and director best known for his work on a long line of classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons for Warner Bros. Cartoons — and produced by Jones and Theodor "Ted" Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss), the storyline faithfully recreates Seuss' tale of a small-hearted creature who, in an effort to stop Christmas from coming, decends into Whoville to "steal" Christmas from the town's residents.

Actor Boris Karloff narrates the much-beloved special, and supplies the voice of the Grinch.
