1998: 'Felicity' Begins on The WB
September 29, 2020  | By TV WW

On this day in 1998, the WB introduced Felicity, which starred Keri Russell as a young California girl who impulsively upends her West Coast college plans to follow her high-school crush (Scott Speedman) to New York. The show, which ran four seasons, followed young Felicity Porter's four years at the fictional University of New York through romances, work, school and dorm life.

The series also marked the television debut of J.J. Abrams who created, wrote, executive produced and directed Felicity and co-composed the show's theme music.

During the show's second season, star Russell snipped her trademark long curly locks and, coincidentally, the show's ratings dropped. The famous "Felicity haircut" became a pop-culture reference, cited in numerous other shows.
