1956: Elvis Presley Appears on 'The Steve Allen Show'

The handsome country boy who was about to scandalize the nation with his smoldering, sinful moves, Elvis Presley, was just making a name for himself when he appeared on The Steve Allen Show on this day in 1956.
 
This Elvis appearance was the famous Basset Hound serenade. Dressed in white tie and tails, Elvis sang “Hound Dog” to the long-faced, top hat wearing pup.
