1994: Charles Kuralt Steps Down from 'Sunday Morning'
April 3, 2020  | By TV WW  | 2 comments

On this day in 1994, CBS News' Sunday Morning host Charles Kuralt passed the torch to his successor, Charles Osgood.

Kuralt's retirement came just weeks after his 15th anniversary with the morning show. Kuralt made his journalistic mark with his "On the Road" segments for CBS News, for which he traveled the U.S. in a motor home to find and profile America's quirky characters and unsung heroes.

Mr.Kuralt was a visionary along with Robert Northshield. It has never been the same on Sunday Morning when he exited and become much worse though tolerable with Jane Pauley who takes many Sundays off aside from this pandemic. Kuralt also did a weekly series of his On The Road travels briefly and then wrote good books. His sad premature death in a NYC Hospital on a July 4th left many of us unable to thank him.But I did. I took him a Christmas card one December to the CBS offices across from the W.57th St. studio. He also did a remarkable fill in anchor role one Christmas Eve asking world leaders about the chance for Peace in our lifetime. Imagine that.
