2005: 'Masters of Horror' Debut on Showtime
October 28, 2012  | By Christy Slewinski

Today in 2005, Showtime debuted the anthology series, Masters of Horror, which showcased works by some of the horror genre's best-known writers and directors.

The idea for the anthology grew from a series of informal dinners for horror directors hosted by Mick Garris, director of Stephen King's The Stand and Riding the Bullet and the anthology showrunner. Contributors — which included John Carpenter (Halloween), John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy), Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) and Joe Dante (The Howling, Gremlins) — produced one-hour episodes for the series' two seasons.
