2003: ABC Introduced 'Karen Sisco'
October 1, 2012  | By Christy Slewinski

On this day in 2003, ABC debuted Karen Sisco, a series spun from Elmore Leonard's 1996 novel, Out of Sight, and the same-name 1998 film starring Jennifer Lopez as Sisco, along with George Clooney, Ving Rhames, Don Cheadle, Dennis Farina and Steve Zahn.

The television series starred Carla Gugino as Karen Sisco, a U.S. marshal battling crime along Florida's Gold Coast. For Sisco, crimefighting comes naturally, romance doesn't. Her closest confidante is her father, a semi-retired private eye, played by Robert Forster.

Episodes aired on USA Network after their network debut. When ABC canceled the series after just seven episodes, the remaining three ran exclusively on USA.

In 2010, FX debuted Justified, a series based on another Leonard character, U.S. marshal Raylan Givens. Karen Sisco star Gugino reprised her role on an episode in the third season, with the character being referred to by her married name, Karen Goodall — a hint to fans that Sisco finally found her Mr. Right.
