THE FOUR COMPLETE ED SULLIVAN SHOWS STARRING THE BEATLES
September 3, 2013  | By David Bianculli  | 2 comments

In fewer than six months – specifically, on Feb. 9, 2014 – it will be 50 years since The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. That appearance was the most-watched TV event up to that time, with 86 percent of all American TVs in use and tuned to CBS. Stock up on this collection in advance, which presents the unedited hours of all four Beatles appearances, including commercials and all the other acts. (In their live American debut, John, Paul, George and Ringo were followed by a pretaped card-trick performer.) Then remember to pull out this DVD in February, and treat your guests and family to an As-It-Happened recreation of a pivotal turning point in pop-culture history, half a century later. – DB

Wait, I didn't know Jon Stewart was in the original Beatles! (Or did you mean John"?) ;-)
