Suddenly Silverman

With middling sitcoms cancelled almost instantly each season, it’s puzzling when a show like Susan 313 comes along – and doesn’t get ordered. Sarah Silverman’s 2012 pilot for NBC has been released by 20th Century Fox and free to be seen right here at TVWW, and it’s well worth it. The setup had Silverman moving back into her New York City apartment after living with her boyfriend for 10 years. With Silverman co-writing, it has all her trademark awkwardness and meta-humor – and a bold nude scene with the standup star (strategically covered). We’re kind of wondering why there was no cable interest when NBC passed. Smart stuff. –Eric Gould

Daring and at times funny, yes, but what I saw was a completely self-obsessed character who had little empathy or ability to have close relationships. I'm clearly in the minority, but this pilot made me wish for a show developed around Tig Notaro, a far more human and appealing character as well as actress.

I liked it a lot. Any chance that a cable channel will eventually pick it up?

I agree, too, Eric. Perhaps another case of a smart creator being ahead of her time. I find Sarah Silverman talented and very funny but she may have frightened "the suits" with her tendency to push the envelope...and push. So, as you say, why not cable? Too bad...But thanks for bringing it to us!

Sarah always makes herself a totally unredeemable character. Unfortunately in this one, she doesn't surround herself with a lovable cast of zanies. This one is just too much Sarah. Still, I totally appreciate this level of insanity. And more Jeff Goldblum.

I agree, and found the show wonderfully odd and entertaining...
