Perfect Leftovers
August 11, 2017  | By Eric Gould

In case you missed it, this week marked the 24th anniversary of the season finale of ABC’s odd-couple sitcom Perfect Strangers. (Yeah, we covered that.) But the show is still in the news. The recently completed HBO series The Leftovers had a brief joke in Season One which started out as a writer’s room gag – the 2% of the world’s population gone in the rapture-like disappearance of the Sudden Departure also included the cast of Perfect Strangers. All except for Mark Linn-Baker who played Larry Appleton, that is, and who ended up faking his departure and was hiding out in Mexico. Series creator Damon Lindelof (Lost) has explained that it was an obvious choice to bring back Linn-Baker again in the final Season Three – here in this clip as the unlikely messenger who reveals to Nora (Carrie Coon) that there is a secret device which can reunite the grieving with their disappeared loved ones. –Eric Gould
