KENNEDY: THE COMPLETE SERIES
November 22, 2013  | By David Bianculli  | 3 comments

Fifty years after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, it seems like the appropriate time to add, to our all-time TVWW Seal of Approval list,  this NBC miniseries, broadcast 20 years after that fateful event. This 1983 miniseries stars, as JFK, Martin Sheen, who already had portrayed, superbly, Robert F. Kennedy in 1975’s The Missiles of October telemovie about the Cuban missile crisis (already a Seal of Approval recipient). Co-starring, as Jackie Kennedy, is Blair Brown, who is superb here as well.  The tone is here is respectful but not reverent, and never slips into sordid or sensational. Made at the height of the TV miniseries era, it’s a big-budget, big-cast biographical treatment of  JFK, and now may be the perfect time to revisit it. –DB
