STILL ALICE

Julianne Moore is remarkable in this 2014 story about a professor who is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. It shows the effects of the disease from her point of view as well as that of her family – and though it’s ultimately uplifting and thoroughly informative and empathic, it’s nonetheless occasionally uncomfortable to watch – especially if you have a loved one who is going through a similar type of mental erosion. Moore’s portrayal is so subtle and sensitive, though it shouldn’t be missed. Just know what you’re heading in to. But caregivers may find not only solace here, but understanding, if they can stand to tune in. Alec Baldwin and Kristen Stewart co-star as the husband and daughter to Moore’s Alice.
