John Sturges, director of the Hour of the Gun film preceding this 1970 movie, directed this Western as well, with a superb cast that includes Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn and James Coburn. It’s one of the more iconic Westerns, yet it’s based on a 1954 Akira Kurosawa Japanese film, Seven Samurai, that’s an even more iconic and impressive of an Eastern.
