I’m not recommending any of the televised New Year’s Eve celebrations this year. Too depressing. I can’t wait for the pages to turn on the calendar, but for the ball to drop? If there are no people gathered to celebrate, that’s a sad sight. And if there are people to party, and watch the ball drop in Times Square and elsewhere? Even more depressing. But TCM is showing, starting at 8 p.m. ET, all three That’s Entertainment! compilation films of movie musical moments from MGM’s storied catalogue, followed by its sister compilation film, That’s Dancing! All told, there’s nowhere to turn to find more entertaining minutes per hour, no better place to watch something ideal for the whole family – and nothing better to watch and appreciate while ringing out the old and bringing in the new, or whatever we’re supposed to be doing.
