And here’s another, much more improbable Christmas TV tradition: This 1983 movie version of Jean Shepherd’s nostalgic character comedy about being a boy in the 1940s, obsessed with the dream of getting a particular BB gun for Christmas. Peter Billingsley stars as young Ralphie, with Darren McGavin stealing the movie (with help from his leg lamp) as his gruff father. TBS begins showing A Christmas Story at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and shows it continuously for the next 24 hours.
