In last week’s premiere telecast, HBO established the tone, setting and central characters of this eight-episode prequel to the classic Erle Stanley book and TV series. Tonight comes episode two, with the plot thickening, and with down-on-his-luck private eye Perry Mason (Matthew Rhys) getting closer to the grisly murder case of a kidnapped baby.
