2019 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYOFFS
October 18, 2019  | By David Bianculli

Fox Sports 1, 7:00 p.m. ET

The 2019 postseason is a perfect example why the games are played, rather than just decided beforehand based on reputations and expectations. Two of the most powerful postseason names in baseball, for example, are the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, power teams of their respective coasts. But already in this postseason, the Dodgers have been dispatched by the lowly wild-card Washington Nationals, who are representing the National League in the World Series. And tonight, in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series, the Yankees face elimination. They’re behind 1-3, in this best-of-seven series against the Houston Astros. The Yankees have home-field advantage, but if they don’t win tonight to force a Game 6, and then a Game 7, and win those three in a row, then the 2019 World Series will be between the Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals. And who would have seen that coming?
