DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE
August 30, 2019  | By David Bianculli

Netflix, 3:00 a.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: This new Netflix series is set 50 years before the events in Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal, which was released in 1982. Movie technology has advanced exponentially since then, and Age of Resistance certainly benefits from it – but this revisiting of Henson’s imaginative world is populated by an old-fashioned technique: puppets. Ten episodes, all available for viewing today, continue the vision that Henson once called his proudest achievement. The story nods to Tolkien and Game of Thrones, the look to the Muppets and Tim Burton, and the mood and feel to the same Eighties vibe that has made Stranger Things such a hit on Netflix. Expect this to be another. For a full review, see David Hinckley's All Along the Watchtower.
