THE UNTOLD STORY OF 'THE SOUND OF MUSIC'
March 18, 2015  | By David Bianculli  | 2 comments

ABC, 10:00 p.m. ET

Fifty years after the original release of this beloved Oscar-winning movie version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Diane Sawyer presents this 20/20 special looking back at it all, with the film’s star, Julie Andrews, as co-tour guide. Their travels take them from the movie’s production notes, where we see storyboards for an unused hedge maze sequence suggested for the “Do Re Mi” number, to Austria, where the hills remain alive… along with the descendents of the Von Trapp family.

Loved this on tv tonight. My favorite movie/musical of all times. Loved seeing this special on the background of it and where it was filmed in Austria and Germany. It could have been far longer than an hour. Would have loved to see and know even more. Thank you.

This was Marvelous tonight and Diane Sawyer is the greatest you have. How can I get a copy of the hour as I really loved the interview with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer? Thank you for showing this wonderful program.
