TRUE BLOOD
July 29, 2012  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

This show amazes me by its dizzying pace, and its ability and desire to pivot, in a second, with major plot points that most TV shows would milk for half a season. Last week, a few drops of blood from the fabled “original vampire,” Lilith, turned out to have instant transformative power, turning Bill and Eric (Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard) into, quite literally, bloodthirsty killers. Eric snapped out of it, but what’s to happen next? Especially since, in other subplots, both Russell (Denis O’Hare) and Tara (Rutina Wesley) are getting stronger and more deadly?

I don't know...don't you feel that they're juggling WAY too many balls in the air? I mean, there's like 7 sub-plots all going on at the same time. Sookie with the fairies thing, the "Ifrit" chasing down Terry, Eric and Bill and the whole Russell thing, the whole Tara and Pam thing, the Lafayette fiasco, the Jessica and Jason and Hoyt thing...not to mention the whole vamp-hating Hoyt thing, plus the Alcide with the wolves and the people going after the shifters and the whole Sheriff Andy catastrophe....oh, and Sam and his shifter friend and her kid that's also a wolf and is tied with the wolf pack that her now-dead ex was a part of and on and on and on and on.

Sheesh, and I'm sure I left out a few things. It's TOO MUCH. They need to seriously whittle down the sub-plots to like maybe 2...3 at the most.

I hated the whole smoke-spirit thing, if that counts. Too much like "Lost." But the rest, I try and keep up and enjoy the ride, almost like I'm watching a highlights reel.
